St. Paul’s Senior Services Announces New President & CEO – Michael McHale
San Diego, Calif. (Feb. 15, 2022) – St. Paul’s Senior Services (SPSS) announces its new President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) – Michael McHale.
St. Paul’s Board of Directors conducted a thorough nationwide search for the permanent replacement of long-time President & CEO Cheryl Wilson, who retired on February 5, 2022 after 32 years of service. After a six month search, St. Paul’s Senior Services, San Diego’s largest non-profit senior care organization, is proud to announce the appointment of new President & CEO Michael McHale. McHale brings more than 22 years of executive management, development and customer service experience in the senior care, long-term care, and hospice industry. He will begin his post on April 11, 2022.
“Throughout his career, McHale has been dedicated to the time-tested concept of continued learning and how this fosters innovative and impactful programs to benefit seniors along the aging continuum,” said Patrick Edd, St. Paul’s Senior Services Board Chair. “At St. Paul’s, he will continue the organization’s mission to serve seniors and will seek new opportunities to provide more services to more seniors in more places.”
St. Paul’s provides a wide spectrum of care services for seniors in San Diego including multi-site active retirement living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and four Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) sites. St. Paul’s PACE provides medical and social services for over 1,200 low income and frail San Diego seniors including home care.
In his role at St. Paul’s, McHale will collaborate with the Board of Directors and the leadership team to ensure the continued growth and refinement of services that fulfill the goals of St. Paul’s. He will be responsible for strategic development and growth activities that increase the scope and scale of the company, as well as overall profitability. Additionally, he will ensure the smooth and efficient operation and financial performance for all communities, programs, and services.
“I’m committed to developing innovative and meaningful services to make a difference for how seniors experience life,” said McHale. “As a past St. Paul’s employee, I am acutely aware of and dedicated to the mission of St. Paul’s and am thrilled to further enhance its impact on the most vulnerable senior populations in San Diego.”
McHale comes to St. Paul’s after time at TRU Community Care (2017 to present) in Boulder, Colo. and Rainbow Hospice and Palliative Care (2015-2017) in Mt. Prospect, IL, serving as President & CEO at both institutions.
At TRU, McHale launched TRU Tele-Care Services to “better support those living with advanced illness through bio-metric monitoring and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to better support care at home during the COVID-19 pandemic,” a program which has expanded beyond its initial use during the pandemic.
Prior to his tenure in Colorado and Illinois, McHale also served as Chief Operating Officer (COO) and CEO at Hospice of the Chesapeake, Inc. in Maryland; Vice President of Business Development and Sales at The Washington Home and Community Hospices in Wash. D.C.; Corporate Director of Marketing and Access Services at Hospice of Michigan; and Director of Access Services at the San Diego Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc.
McHale returns to St. Paul’s more than 22 years after he began his initial work in senior care at St. St. Paul’s Nursing and Rehabilitation & Rehabilitation Center, also known as McColl’s Health Center, in 1999.
