Cheryl Wilson

Chief Executive Officer

Cheryl Wilson has served as the Chief Executive Officer at St. Paul’s Senior Services for 29 years. Bringing a lifetime of experience as a nurse and hospital administrator to the organization, Cheryl’s passionate yet tenacious qualities have taken St. Paul’s from a small independent living community with 25 staff serving 50 seniors, to a revolutionary San Diego landmark in senior care. Today, St. Paul’s Senior Services is San Diego’s largest non-profit exclusively dedicated to senior care with over 1,000 residents and participants, served by more than 600 staff members.
Wilson has dedicated her 55-year career to the care of seniors. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Prince Henry’s Nursing School and her Master’s Degree from the University of Redlands. Her nursing career began in the Australian outback where she treated extreme medical cases under primitive conditions. Wilson moved to San Diego in 1970 and helped co-found what was then called the Imperial Beach Free Clinic. She later accepted the role of Clinic Director at Fredericka Manor in Chula Vista, where she developed their first Personal Services Unit that would be a precursor to the assisted living we know today. From 1986-1998, she operated as a teacher for Nursing Administration for R.N.C. examination of Med-Ed and ran the Acute Care Hospitals in California. At the same time, she served as a critical care and operating room nurse while consulting to long-term care programs and facilities.

Today, Wilson translates her career of geriatric nursing into SNF management, the building of senior care clinics, supervising senior communities and lobbying for statewide senior care improvements. Her work in healthcare has been honored with the Women Together Award, Salvation Army Woman of Dedication, San Diego Ecumenical Council Honoree, Tribute to Women in Industry, and Rotary International Foundation Recognition. The California Association of Homes and Services for the Aging also named Wilson “Mentor of the Year.”
Wilson extends her passion for senior healthcare as a member of LeadingAge California, LeadingAge National, Global Aging Network, Howell Foundation, San Diego Senior Alliance, Don’t Wait Vaccinate Committee, San Diego Rotary Club 33 and the Senior Services Committee. She uses her expertise at St. Paul’s to manage a complex matrix of senior care services through their amazing staff and provides innovative services of excellence to seniors at all levels of the economic market with compassion each and every day.
